A Community theatre night is an opportunity to partner with a community group to host a diverse or equity-seeking environment at the Belfry Theatre.
We want to ensure that the Belfry offers a safe space where audiences can gather with friends and communities that represent them.
These gatherings will be tailored and unique to each community group, with some similarities between the general format (including Afterplay conversation and refreshments), and community-specific details that will come from the co-creation with each community.
We will have a community connector for each night from the following communities:
1. Newcomers, Refugees, and Immigrants
4. Indigenous (including pan-Indigenous)
5. African and Caribbean
The community theatre night is an opportunity to celebrate diversity, inclusion, and accessibility by doing what we like to do most, enjoying theatre!
If you would like to participate in or attend a Community Theatre Night, please contact Matilde Cervantes Navarrete.

The opportunity to discuss a piece of theatre after you have seen it can enhance your experience of the play.
As the Belfry produces engaging theatre that often grapples with significant issues, audience members often want to ask each other what they think about certain ideas or a character’s reaction to a challenging situation.
A community facilitator hosts Afterplay, but they are not there to answer questions or to offer expert information. The goal of Afterplay – and the thrill of it – is that the conversation is audience-to-audience.
Note: For the 2023-2024 Season, Afterplay will be taking place during Community Theatre Nights.
